Marvel vs DC is one fierce rivalry. Whether it is comics, animated movies, or live-action films, fans keep arguing whether Superman is more powerful or the Hulk. More often than not, the debate degenerates, and gets abusive and demeaning. You just cannot have a constructive discussion. And offline, these fight would come to blows. Neither faction would back down, and Hulk fans just would not accept that Superman would destroy the Green Goliath every time. Just kidding.

This whole thing seems to have irked James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series. The guy made quite an unforgivable mistake of tweeting his praise of Zachary Levi, who has been cast as DC character Shazam (also known as Captain Marvel) in a movie called Shazam that is slated to be released in April 2019. Levi has also played Fandral in Thor: Dark World. Then started what Gunn calls “an endless screaming match about BvS.” BvS (Batman vs Superman) brought together top DC superheroes Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. It received less-than-flattering critical reception but was a huge success at the box office anyway. The discussion over whether the movie is good or not is contentious and both sides have strong opinion. And judging by the tweets I encountered on Gunn’s feed, I don’t blame him at all. In a thread with seven tweets, James Gunn tried to drill some sense into the heads of fanboys (and fangirls).

His entire statement read like this: “Every time I mention anything DC, no matter what, my feed becomes an endless screaming match about BvS. You guys are never going to convince each other – it’s just a bunch of wasted energy. At least when you’re screaming at each other about Trump, it’s something of international importance. But it’s a 2 year old movie that some people like and some people don’t. Why is someone else’s opinion so important to you? As Marvel and DC super fans you have way more in common with each other than you do with the rest of the world. So why do you spend so much time raging at each other? It’s silly. Please just stop it. Stop engaging in that way. But at the very least, when you do, untag me. I’ve muted a lot of you guys, but not all. Thanks.”

Just what I wanted to say, Mr Auteur. Hear him, fanatics, and just give it a rest
