Jailed for raping his women disciples, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh apparently doesn’t want to meet his wife Harjeet Kaur. While the name of his adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan — against which Haryana police have issued a lookout notice so that she doesn’t not flee the country — that of Harjeet is not on the list of 10 names that Gurmeet has given to Sunaria jail officials as regular visitors.
Prisoners give a list of their regular visitors, usually family members, to make it easier for police to verify their antecedents and facilitate the meeting when they come to jail to see the inmate. The godman had given names of his mother Nasib Kaur, son Jasmeet Insaan, daughter-in-law Husanpreet Insaan, daughters Amarpreet and Charanpreet, sons-in-law Shan-e-Meet and Ruh-e-Meet, Dera management chairperson Vipasana and an old loyalist Daan Singh, apart from Honeypreet.
However, Gurmeet would have to wait longer to meet any of those he named as possible regular visitors. This because as none of them was available for police verification in Sirsa on Monday. Apparently, the family has left the Dera, police sources said.
A police party headed by Sirsa Sadar station house officer (SHO) Dinesh Kumar visited the Dera premises to verify the antecedents of 10 persons whose names have been given by Gurmeet to be listed as ‘mulakaatis’ (visitors) in the Sunaria jail of Rohtak.
Since the SHO could not meet all family members, the process for finalizing the list of verified visitors for the Dera head would get delayed by a week, sources said.
Sirsa SP Ashwin Shenvi confirmed that except for Vipassana, none of the persons listed in the communication issued by the Sunaria jail superintendent were available for verification. “We have forwarded the lists to the concerned districts of Haryana and Rajasthan. Our officials will visit the Dera complex again for this purpose before communicating with other districts,” said Shenvi.
As per the jail manual, an inmate has to submit a list of 10 persons who will be visiting him or her in jail on a regular basis. Jail authorities get the verification of these persons done before granting long term permission. Sirsa police had received the list submitted by Gurmeet on Monday.
